Your Body Is Trying to Help You
Attention-getter:
What if your body is not your enemy?
Many people become frustrated with their bodies.
They say:
“My blood pressure is acting up.”
“My stomach is bothering me.”
“My heart is racing.”
“I cannot sleep.”
“My body is falling apart.”
But there is another way to look at the body.
Every day, your body is working to keep you alive.
Your heart beats without you reminding it.
Your lungs breathe while you sleep.
A cut begins repairing itself.
Your immune system watches for danger.
Your body adjusts its temperature.
Your brain constantly receives information and tries to protect you.
The body has built-in systems that move toward balance and repair.
Christians may look at this and say, “God designed us wonderfully.”
The Psalmist said:
“I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
—Psalm 139:14
An agnostic reader may describe the same thing differently: the human body has remarkable biological systems designed through nature to protect life.
Either way, the lesson is powerful.
Your body is constantly trying to move toward survival, balance, and recovery.
But here is the problem.
The body’s repair systems work best when we cooperate with them.
Constant stress, poor sleep, isolation, anger, fear, inactivity, and unhealthy habits can make the body’s job harder.
THE SELF-HEALING PRESCRIPTION
Today, ask yourself:
“Am I helping my body heal, or am I making its job harder?”
Then do three simple things:
1. Take five slow breaths.
2. Drink a glass of water.
3. Spend ten quiet minutes without television, social media, or bad news.
If you are Christian, use those ten minutes to pray.
If you are not religious, use them for quiet reflection.
Healing often begins with cooperation.
Think about it:
Your body has been working for you since the day you were born.
Maybe it deserves a little help.
